So in my last post we were sadly leaving Ubud to move onto Canggu, from what we had heard Canggu is mainly known for its good surf and partying, apart from that it hasn’t got much else on really.
Canggu
So on the first day after we had dropped our bags off at our hostel we headed for the Batu Bolong beach, the main beach at Canggu. It was a pretty standard black sand beach littered with different surf shops/schools and restaurants.
Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos in Canggu as I wasn’t doing many cultural activities apart from surfing and partying…
I decided to take a lesson at 2pm whilst Matt stayed on the beach. At this point of the day it was at high tide which is important due to the beach being a reef break which means the surface beneath you is coral reef and not sand.
A high tide of a reef break on Batu Bolong is relatively safe because if you come off your board the sea is high enough that you won’t hit any of the coral nor will you step on any when attempting to climb back onto your board.
After about a 1.5 hour lesson I headed back onto shore injury free and relaxed for another 30 minutes before attempting to head back out again, this time it was a lower tide though.
It’s always a bit worrying when you can feel the coral reef when you are paddling out for some more surf, it was tough afternoon where I didn’t catch many waves and ended up cutting my ankle on some of the coral when I got wiped out by a wave.
It’s important to disinfect any cuts from coral because coral can contain a lot of harmful bacteria, that meant once I was back onshore me and Matt had to find a pharmacy which wasn’t too difficult.
The following few days were predominantly filled with surfing and partying. Canggu has a lot of seafront beach clubs (Finns & Vue) but we also ventured to a neighbouring beach resort area of Seminyak as they have some famous beach front clubs as well (Ku De Ta & Potato Head).
Despite all these upscale clubs my favourite was Pretty Poison, a club with a skate bowl in the middle of it.
By the end of our time in Canggu I was glad to see it go, I felt a need to have a detox from alcohol and begin to be more ‘cultural’. We decided to head to Nusa Lembongan, Ceningan and Penida to clear our systems of Bintang and take in some more sights again.
Nusa Lembongan
So getting onto the island is a relatively easy affair, we just headed to Sanur and within 30 minutes of arriving we were on a boat set for Nusa Lembongan!

We spent our first afternoon/evening just recovering and planning our next day.
Next morning we rented a scooter set off early to try and beat the tourist crowds arriving on day tours from the boats.

Our first stop was a mangrove boat tour, due to the low tide we didn’t get to the see the whole area but still got to see Godzilla and some cool views of the outside of the mangrove.

We then moved onto Nusa Ceningan as we had read this is the best way to keep beating the tourists.
Nusa Ceningan
So after crossing a narrow golden bridge designed for people and scooters we were on Nusa Ceningan.

Our first stop was Blue Lagoon, a pretty self explanatory sightseeing spot!

After a few quick photos, we jumped back onto the scooter and headed for another beach called Secret Beach which was pretty easy to find to be honest and by this by point we were both pretty beached out…

Afterwards we decided to try and find a place for lunch and by chance managed to find an amazing restaurant at the top of the island with a great view over to Nusa Penida!

We were finished up by around 2:30pm and once we had arrived back on Lembongan it was still unfortunately packed with day tourists and most the sights were beaches again so we decided to end our day there.
Nusa Penida
So after another early morning we caught a quick boat across to Nusa Penida to begin the next lot of sightseeing and I would say out of the 3 Islands I would recommend Nusa Penida the most.
Kelingking
Once bags were dropped at our accommodation we hired another scooter again and set off for Kelingking Beach, famous for its T-Rex like rock formation!
You can hike down to a beach below but it looks like we didn’t miss out on too much and due to the large tourist crowds it can take up to 1 hour just to get down to the beach.
For the photos below you only had walk 2 minutes to the right of the main attraction to reach these spots and would recommend doing that if you ever visit it!

Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong
Once our photoshoot was over we headed onto our next attraction Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong.

Snorkelling
Without a doubt this was one of the highlights of my trip so far. For £10 we had 3 hours of snorkelling at 3 different locations.
Our first stop was Manta Bay.
After being able to be up so close to the mantas we headed off to our second spot of Gamat Bay.
After Gamat Bay we headed to the final spot, the wall, it was a bit of a different snorkel this time as you end up riding a current alongside the cliff face and you just get pushed along with no need to paddle, we essentially ended back up at the beach we started at!
So after the snorkelling it was time for us to leave the islands head back to the mainland of Bali, we decided to spend our last 3 days in Bali in a villa on Bingin beach.
Bingin Beach
So here we are, 3 last days of relaxation. Next post will be about our adventures in Australia and will probably be a bit of a shorter post than this one!

Highlights of Bali
I would have to say my three favourite parts of Bali were Tegenungan waterfall, Kelingking Beach and Snorkelling!
Additionally I would recommend skipping Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan and to head straight for Nusa Penida which has better sights and activities to do!
